A Canadian journalist and player for more than 35 years, Strato has been actively involved in the online-offline backgammon scene for more than a decade and has reported live from backgammon tournaments all over the world.

In 2002, Strato was awarded the prestigious Chairman's Trophy at the World Backgammon Championships in Monte Carlo, Monaco for his support of that and other major backgammon events

In May of 2007, at the 19th European Championships in Velden, Austria Strato was also presented with a special plaque by the Worldwide Backgammon Federation (WBF) for his "kind cooperation" and support of their tournaments around the world. The WBF, its President Alberto da Pra and Secretary-General Marco Fornasir, have organized some six annual events worldwide since 1986.

Strato’s company, Michael Strato Backgammon Consultants Inc., was the consultant for:

- Player International Ltd. of the UK, who he helped to organize the first-ever Million Dollar tournament. The historical event was the brainstorm of Stephen Pearson of Player International and the event was held at the Atlantis Resort in The Bahamas in January 2007.

And Strato is currently the backgammon consultant for:

- The Partouche Group of France, Europe’s largest land-based casino operator, who will soon launch a new backgammon server and information website. Partouche organized a 2007 Partouche Gammon Tour (PGT), a series of five live events in France that had a minimum guaranteed prize pool of 300,000 Euros. The PGT was a success and a second season has already started with 8 major events. Partouche has also created the World Series of Backgammon (WSOB), a television series with episodes from three major events - one in each of London, Copenhagen and Cannes. Strato is also a consultant for the WSOB.
